Medicare adopts changes to Part A policies, proposes more

As the saying goes, the only constant is change. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released its annual fiscal year FY2024 Medicare Part A final rules for inpatient settings in July/August, effective October 1, 2023, and each included payment increases. This article provides a summary of the changes to payment policies and quality measure requirements, and highlights key provisions of CMS’ calendar year CY2024 home health PPS proposed rule that was published in the July 10, 2023 Federal Register. Occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) work in each of these settings and should be aware of the newest changes affecting payment for OT services.
