Elected and appointed positions

AOTA uses elections or appointments when a volunteer committee is needed or in cases of governance business. All elected or appointed positions are managed through AOTA's Volunteer Leadership Development Committee (VLDC). OTs and OTAs are encouraged to apply for leadership positions.

AOTA Elections

The VLDC is seeking additional nominations for the Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity, Justice, Accessibility and Belong (DEIJAB) Chairperson and hope you will nominate yourself, or someone you know. This role begins on July 1, 2025, and is a member of the Board of Directors.

The nomination period is reopened from Monday, October 21, 2024, through Monday, October 28, 2025, at 11:59 AM ET (just before noon). Candidate interviews will take place during the weeks of November 4-15, 2024.

Before submitting your nominations, please take the time to review the Volunteer Leadership Competencies Matrix, the general eligibility criteria, and position descriptions. To participate you must complete the nomination process using our online voting system.

How do I volunteer?

AOTA offers many opportunities for you to become active in your professional community. Your investment of time and energy adds value to our mission and serves to strengthen the profession. The Volunteer Center on CommunOT features non-elected, non-appointed positions. For elected or appointed positions, find the information for nominations on this page. Announcements will also be included in OT Practice magazine, AOTA e-newsletters, this website, and social media communications.

Volunteer skills and competencies framework

AOTA members have an opportunity to align their unique and diverse talents and experiences with positions that fit their volunteer goals and professional development needs.

The Volunteer Leadership Development Committee (VLDC) designed a forward thinking, competency-based process for recruiting, vetting, and identifying Association volunteer leaders. AOTA’s governance bodies identified specific competency needs within the matrix necessary to support their purpose and functions, with an annual review of needs for supporting their scope of work and key initiatives in the upcoming year.

VLDC members

The VLDC not only manages elections and appointments for AOTA's committees, they are an elected and appointed group themselves. If you're interested in an elected or appointed role, reach out one of the VLDC volunteers to talk about their experience!
