AOTA engages in commercial insurance advocacy

Although many American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) members are familiar with AOTA’s advocacy efforts with Congress and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), they might not be as aware of its advocacy efforts in the realm of commercial insurance (https://bit.ly/3XmyjSM), including employer plans, Medicaid managed care, and Medicare Advantage plans. Last year was particularly busy because occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) notified AOTA and their state associations about payer policies that were detrimental to occupational therapy (OT) practices. AOTA continues to ramp up our advocacy efforts with commercial payers, and this means our partnerships with AOTA members and other associations—both state and national—are critical to effectively representing the profession.
