Creating opportunities in rural practice: A reflection of barriers and breakthroughs in a rural community

Every practitioner can agree that each job comes with its own set of challenges and benefits. For an occupational therapy practitioner in my third year of practice, that can be an understatement. As a proud recent graduate of Tuskegee University, I consider myself a lifelong learner. My goal is to continuously evolve as an occupational therapist, with my most recent achievement being the attainment of certification for lymphedema. I also took on the challenge of working in a rural, critical-access hospital, which serves the community for both inpatient and outpatient care.
