Maintaining happiness in occupational therapy practice: Beyond burnout prevention

Occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) often hear about the importance of avoiding burnout, which is characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and a sense of reduced accomplishment (Maslach & Leiter, 2016). Strategies for preventing burnout, reducing workload, advocating for support, and setting boundaries are essential. Yet, although these strategies help prevent exhaustion, they do not necessarily cultivate happiness in practice.
