Lifting as we climb: Building a legacy of mentorship in occupational therapy
Mentorship is essential to professional development and success in occupational therapy and is valued across the career trajectory, from student to experienced practitioner. Mentorship is necessary to develop the cornerstones of occupational therapy practice, according to the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework: Domain and Process (American Occupational Therapy Association, 2020), Culturally sensitive mentorship actively recognizes, honors, and values the diverse cultural backgrounds, identities, and experiences of the mentor and mentee (Njelesani et al., 2025).
