2026 state legislative forecast

AOTA collaborates daily with state occupational therapy association leaders to identify, evaluate, and monitor legislative proposals that could affect the profession. During state legislative sessions in 2026, state occupational therapy associations will address many legislative issues, including payment and reimbursement, OT Practice Act updates, Occupational Therapy Licensure Compact, recognition of occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) as mental health providers, and school-based occupational therapy policies.
