Packing cultural humility into practice: Lessons from creating a bento box

In the dynamic field of occupational therapy, embracing cultural humility and actively developing cultural intelligence (CQ) is essential for providing equitable and effective care to U.S. clients from diverse backgrounds. According to the United States Census Bureau, in 2020, “there was a 61.1% chance that two people chosen at random were from different racial or ethnic groups” (Rabe, 2024, para. 8), including Hispanic or Latino, White, Black or African American, American Indian and Alaska Native, Asian, and Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander as well as multiracial individuals.
