2025 state legislative forecast

Although the 2024 elections brought a major shift to the federal level with Republicans now controlling the White House, Senate, and House of Representatives, only small changes occurred regarding who holds the levers of power in state capitols across the country.  

Throughout the country, state legislatures consider an average of 128,000 pieces of legislation per year. What this means for state occupational therapy associations and the AOTA State Affairs Group, is that they are busy reviewing proposed legislation to identify impacts to the occupational therapy profession as well as proactively working with legislators to introduce legislation that advances the profession.
