Medicaid Essentials for Occupational Therapy: Coverage, Policy, and Practice

This document serves to provide foundational information about Medicaid and its role in healthcare, highlight important Medicaid issues that impact occupational therapy (OT) practice, promote Medicaid coverage of OT services and connect OT practitioners to state associations and resources to strengthen knowledge and advocacy efforts.

AOTA supports Medicaid advocacy by monitoring proposed state legislation and regulations; interpreting information contained in state Medicaid manuals, statutes, and administrative codes; locating and comparing other states’ policies; coordinating with and supporting state association advocacy; and assisting in the compilation of supporting documents or talking points.
