Supporting menstrual health management: Female adolescents with visual impairments
How confident are you in handling topics that are rarely discussed yet significantly affect independence? Occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) are well positioned to address the everyday challenges that often go unseen across all ages, populations, and diagnoses. Despite occupational therapy’s emphasis on everyday occupations, many invisible barriers continue to limit independence and participation in meaningful activities for individuals with visual impairment (VI), highlighting critical gaps in practice. Driven by shifting demographics and an aging population, the prevalence of VI continues to rise both in the United States and globally (Varma et al., 2016).
