Occupational therapy and human–equine interactions: A unique, holistic approach

Human–equine interactions (HEI) are reciprocal relationships between humans and horses that can influence health and occur across contexts (Fine et al., 2025). In occupational therapy, HEI can be incorporated into meaningful occupations and interventions offering a multimodal therapeutic approach addressing motor, neurological, sensory, and psychosocial needs for individuals across the lifespan and across diagnoses.
