Perspectives That Matter in OT
In frame but out of focus: Men in occupational therapy
There is an internal conflict that men in occupational therapy have, even if we don’t talk much about it.
You show up to your occupational therapy program orientation and realize (maybe for the first time) how few men walk this path. You hear a group of peers making plans, but don’t ask if you can join because you worry about disrupting the group dynamic. You feel a little invisible, a peripheral figure in the ongoing story of the profession, and you think back to all the conversations you’ve heard about what it means to be part of an underrepresented group.
