REAP the rewards: A successful Level II fieldwork experience for supervisors and students
The professional community of occupational therapy education is similar to a community of individuals creating and managing a community garden. Leadership, site development, and tending to the garden are integral components of growing healthy food in a community. In occupational therapy education, academic educators plant seeds of knowledge in each student and cultivate growth in a variety of situations, anticipating successful results. Academic Fieldwork Coordinators work to develop partnerships with the surrounding professional community to support occupational therapy students. Fieldwork educators create learning opportunities and cultivate the knowledge, experiences, and attributes of each student. The result is a bountiful harvest, or in this case, a well-prepared occupational therapy student ready for entry-level practice.
