Fortieth state adopts Medicaid expansion under ACA

North Carolina became the newest Medicaid expansion state on March 27, when Governor Roy Cooper signed bi-partisan legislation to implement the coverage expansion upon passage of the state budget. With North Carolina on board, 40 states and the District of Columbia will have adopted Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). South Dakota, the 39th state, approved expansion through a 2022 ballot measure, and coverage is scheduled to start there on July 1.
