Supporting Aging in Place Through Community-Based Services

An AARP (2014) survey found that “87% of adults aged 65 and older want to stay in their current home and community as they age.” Along with staying in their current homes, older adults also want “access to nearby transportation, groceries, and green spaces” (AARP, 2014). Occupational therapy practitioners have the opportunity to assist older adults in safely aging in place by providing home modifications and adaptive equipment, falls prevention, social support, and community integration.
