Ayres Sensory Integration® Fidelity Measure

This chat focuses on essential elements that define adherence to the manualized and evidence-based occupational therapy practice of Ayres Sensory Integration® (ASI) through a discussion of the ASI Fidelity Measure© (ASIFM).

During this presentation, participants will learn about the purpose and meaning of fidelity in evidence-based practiced in occupational therapy; specifically, its application in research and practice.

We will highlight the development and use of fidelity measures with a focus on the ASIFM as a reliable and valid tool designed to assess adherence to the application of the Ayres Sensory Integration® (ASI) frame of reference during intervention. The presenters will discuss future implications and directions for expansion of ASI tools proposed to enhance evidence-based practice.

This session will be led by Drs. Zoe Mailloux, Sarah Schoen, and Susanne Smith Roley, contributing authors of the Ayres Sensory Integration® Fidelity Measure© (ASIFM).

Zoe Mailloux, OTD, OTR/L, FAOTA is nationally and internationally recognized for her expertise in child development, sensory integration, autism, test development and occupational therapy. Dr. Mailloux is a Co-Founder of the Collaborative for Leadership in Ayres Sensory Integration (CLASI) and has over 80 publications and more than 45 years of experience.

Sarah A. Schoen, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA is an Occupational Therapist with 40 years of clinical and research experience. She is an Associate Professor at the Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions and previously the Director of Research at STAR Institute. She has published over 80 papers and serves as an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Occupational Therapy.

Susanne Smith Roley, OTD, OTR/L, FAOTA is an occupational therapist with over 50 years of experience, specializing in child development, sensory integration, learning difficulties, visual impairment, and autism. She was certified in sensory integration in 1977, studied under Dr. A. Jean Ayres in 1981, and in 1998 co-founded and then directed the USC/WPS sensory integration certificate program for 14 years. She is a Co-founder of the Collaborative for Leadership in Sensory Integration (CLASI), providing a certificate education program in Ayres Sensory Integration® in many countries around the world.
