Drs.’ Cleary and Persch will explore the application of a strengths-based, person-centered measure of work-related interests and adaptive behavior to engage occupational therapy practitioners in the shared decision-making process central to transition services for DD persons from high school to competitive employment. They will focus on how to utilize the VocFit 2.0 as a collaborative assessment that guides intervention, targets potential problems, and monitors responses to intervention.

The discussion will emphasize the critical role of occupational therapy practitioners in designing dynamic interventions for high schoolers to promote improved outcomes as the youth transition to post-graduation. They will cover practical applications and authentic case studies using VocFit that showcase the utility of a strengths-based and client-centered assessment in promoting more efficient intervention and demonstration of effective intervention.

Dennis Cleary, OTD, OTR/L and Andrew Persch, PhD, OTR/L, BCP, FAOTA, have extensive experience working with persons who have developmental disabilities and promoting a strengths-based vision of competitive employment post high school for all persons.

We welcome individuals at all levels, from those with no prior knowledge to seasoned experts.
