PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This session provides an overview of contracture management for occupational therapy practitioners across clinical populations. Participants will review causes and risk factors, orthotic options, and key considerations for selecting appropriate devices. Current evidence and clinical rationale will be shared to support individualized treatment planning. Attendees will gain practical strategies to enhance outcomes and optimize function in individuals at risk for or experiencing contractures.

  • Determine appropriate use and selection of orthotics based on client needs, clinical presentation, and best practice guidelines

Speakers

John Kenney
John Kenney

John Kenney, BOCO, has specialized in the treatment of contractures due to immobility and neurological dysfunction. Kenney holds seven US patents for orthotic devices that effectively treat contractures. Kenney has been a keynote speaker in the US and internationally on the issue of contracture management for the past 20 years. He is the Past Chairman of the Region D Medicare Advisory Committee and the Board of Certification for Orthotics and Prosthetics. He has published several articles on orthotic therapy.

Tyler Vaughn
Tyler Vaughn

Tyler Vaughn has more than 14 years of experience, specializing in knee bracing and orthotic solutions. He developed a bracing and supports division within a durable medical equipment organization, Tyler has extensive hands-on experience fitting braces across a variety of care settings, including orthopedic clinics, nursing homes, and rehabilitation hospitals. His work focuses on optimizing outcomes and supporting conservative treatment pathways through effective bracing strategies.

Alexander Nace

Owner and Managing Director of OCSI. Alexander led the manufacturing division of OCSI and Guardian Brace as of 2010. He began his role and Partner & Managing Director of OCSI and Guardian Brace as of 2019.
