The Communities of Practice (CoP) are built around shared interests and concerns. Diverse AOTA members meet virtually on a regular basis to discuss a specific topic area, relate to AOTA priorities, and help translate key messages to both practitioners and consumers of occupational therapy. Goals include shared learning; building networks; promoting best practice; advocating for OT’s role; and building capacity. Workgroup members have contributed by developing trifolds for parents and administrators; developing PowerPoint presentations for in-services; presenting at conferences; and helping to represent OT at coalition meetings. In addition to participating in the monthly community calls, CoP members are asked to commit to additional work responsibilities that vary in both length and intensity. On average, projects may require 3 to 5 additional hours per month. Membership tenure is open ended, but group members are asked to commit to 1 year of participation.
