Institute on Medicine Publishes Report on Educating Health Professionals

The Institute on Medicine (IOM) recently published the report, A Framework for Educating Health Professionals to Address the Social Determinants of Health. The report explores how the education of health professionals is currently addressing the social determinants of health in and with communities. It presents a framework for how educating health professionals for better understanding the social determinants of health could be strengthened across the learning continuum.

AOTA is a sponsor of this report through the Global Forum, which is an ongoing, convening activity of the IOM that brings together stakeholders from multiple nations and professions to network, discuss, and illuminate issues within health professional education. Currently, there are more than 60 appointed members to the Forum who are academic experts and health professionals representing 18 different disciplines from 9 countries, including Neil Harvison, PhD, OTR, FAOTA, AOTA’s chief officer of academic and scientific affairs.
