On Thursday, February 15th, the House passed HR 620, the Americans with Disabilities Act Education and Reform Act. HR 620 would change Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by removing certain protections that allow people with disabilities to access public accommodations. For more information about the bill, you can read this blog post.
AOTA strongly opposes this bill. We will continue to advocate against this bill and for the protection of the civil rights that the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) provides people with disabilities. While this vote is a setback, the Senate must still pass the bill before it is sent to the President to be signed for it to become law. You can contact your Senators here, and ask them to protect the ADA. It only takes a minute of your time to help protect these civil rights.
