The American Occupational Therapy Association, a national health care professional association located in downtown Bethesda, has an immediate opening for a Legislative Representative in our Public Affairs group.
This individual will have critical responsibilities in representing and advocating for the Association's interests before the U.S. Congress and federal agencies and to promote grassroots advocacy by AOTA members. Primarily responsible for:
- Monitor and analyze federal legislative proposals to assess implications for the profession, and reflecting best practice and interests of the profession and Association in a timely and effective manner responsive to legislative deadlines.
- Conduct lobbying activities, including attending committee hearings, developing relationships with staff, and other activities to proactively support the Association’s legislative goals and respond to legislative activities affecting profession.
- Participate in coalition and other activities which impact the Association's advocacy activities and priorities with other national health, disability, and professional organizations to achieve specific Association public policy goals and objectives.
- Participate in membership education and grassroots advocacy efforts, including developing materials for website and other publications, communication with list-serves and responding to member calls.
Requirements: BA/BS + min. 4 years of related experience. Must have excellent communication, organization, and problem solving skills. Strong interpersonal & communication skills are also required.
