Volunteer Leadership Development Committee (VLDC)

The VLDC is a standing advisory committee of the Board and is responsible for promoting member participation and engagement, volunteer leadership development, and participation initiatives of AOTA.  The VLDC identifies and recruits diverse and qualified candidates for service to the Association through elections and appointments, recipients of awards, and other leadership activities.  The VLDC serves as a resource to members and various leadership groups within AOTA to further enhance its professional activities and priorities.  The Chairperson of the committee is elected by AOTA members. There are six additional appointed members to the committee with consideration given to representation in the areas of advocacy, education, practice, professional development, research, leadership or management. At least one member must be an OTA.  Committee member terms are staggered.

Time Commitment:

The VLDC meets on a regular basis (6-12 times per year) with meetings held online or by conference call at a mutually agreeable time.  E-mail and other web conferencing tools are used to complete work before, during, and between meetings.

Qualifications:

Chairperson:

  • Shall have a minimum of five years experience as an OT or OTA.
  • Shall have a minimum of five years demonstrated leadership experience at the state or national level such as an elected position, or chairperson of a committee or task force.
  • Shall have been involved in Association activities to have a working knowledge of the organizational structure and collaborative networks that will enhance committee functions.

Members:

  • Shall have a minimum of three years experience as an OT or OTA.
  • Shall have a minimum of three years of active volunteer participation in professional activities at the state or national level.
  • Shall have been involved in Association activities to have a working knowledge of the organizational structure and collaborative networks that will enhance committee functions.

Members must have consistent access to a computer with a high-speed Internet connection and be comfortable working in an online environment. This includes opening, saving, editing, and sending attachments as needed. The VLDC maintains a SharePoint site which focuses on the work being reviewed and developed during their meetings.
