The Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE®) is pleased to announce the results of its recent election. Pamela Roberts, PhD, OTR/L, SCFES, FAOTA, CPHQ, ACOTE’s current Vice Chairperson, was elected as the new ACOTE Chairperson, beginning in August 2015.
Chairperson-Elect Roberts is Program Director of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Roberts has been a member of ACOTE since August 2008.
Dr. Roberts has over 32 years of experience in the field of occupational therapy. She received her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from the Washington University School of Medicine, her Master of Science in Health Administration from California State University-Northridge, and her Doctor of Philosophy in Health Sciences from Touro University International. Dr. Roberts is also adjunct faculty for the University of Southern California, in Los Angeles, California.
In her current position at Cedars-Sinai, Dr. Roberts is responsible for coordination of quality management, including performance improvement, outcomes management, regulatory compliance, and research for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She is also responsible for operations of Inpatient Rehabilitation and Neuropsychology.
Dr. Roberts is the current Vice Chairperson of ACOTE and served on the Roster of Accreditation Evaluators from 2001 to 2008 prior to joining ACOTE. As an accreditation on-site evaluator, Dr. Roberts has conducted 18 on-site evaluations at both occupational therapy and occupational therapy assistant educational programs. Dr. Roberts will serve in the Chairperson-Elect position for one year (2014-2015) and will become the Chairperson of ACOTE at the completion of Dr. Ellen McLaughlin’s 3-year term on August 9, 2015.
At its August 2014 meeting, ACOTE also welcomed the following new members. They replaced the positions held by Robin Bowen (Higher Education Administrator), Eileen Garza; Kathie Longbrake (Public Member), Barb Ostrove, and Amy Solomon, who fulfilled their terms after several dedicated years of service. Dr. Mary Ferraro filled the position on ACOTE left when Heather Stagliano, DHSc, OTR/L, joined the staff at AOTA as the new Director of Accreditation effective June 30, 2014.
