The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) has created a web site to provide tips for preventing Medicare fraud and medical identity theft.
OIG’s web site includes a fraud-fighting toolkit, where to report fraud, and other resources. In addition, CMS has issued a Medicare Fraud & Abuse Fact Sheet.

Many American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) members bill Medicare for the occupational therapy services they provide to beneficiaries, so we urge all members to know and understand the severity of committing fraud and know how to appropriately report suspected fraud when necessary. AOTA offers a number of resources on fraud including ethics to guide practitioners’ decisions and an ethics advisory opinion on Ethical Considerations for Productivity, Billing, and Reimbursement.
