Home & Community Health SIS
The HCHSIS provides resources and support for occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, and students whose practice environment is the home and community. Examples include home health, adult day services, senior housing, wellness programs, community mental health centers, home modification, and accessibility consultation.
Practitioners in home health care can access information regarding clinical practice, regulatory standards, and legislative initiatives through periodicals, publications, and electronic media. Individuals interested in the HCHSIS can network with other practitioners through a listserv to share resources, exchange ideas, and stay connected, and they can access the archives of the listserv and the HCHSIS Quarterly.
The HCHSIS promotes community-based practice by identifying exemplars and sharing models for community practice, as well as networking with community-based services and agencies and promoting occupational therapy roles in these settings.
The HCHSIS also includes a specialty network:
The Home Modifications Network, formed in 2004, is composed of practitioners, educators, researchers, and students who have a special interest in home modifications. It's an excellent resource for accurate information, good ideas, and networking. All AOTA members can access the Home Modification listserv and archives.
