Course Description
Providers must maintain a focus on students when providing services in public schools despite many internal and external forces attempting to influence decision making. Presenters will draw on AOTA’s online Evidence-Based Practice Resource Directory, and guidance will be provided from AOTA’s Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics (2005). Guidance will be provided on ethical issues that may also have legal and employment consequences.
Learning Objectives
After completing this session, you will be able to—

Identify three ethical issues that arise in building-level decision making for occupational therapy evaluation and intervention in public schools.

Identify three ethical issues that result from external influences on decision making for occupational therapy services in public schools.

Identify resources to resolve ethical issues in school that may have legal or employment consequences.

Identify AOTA resources, including the Code of Ethics, to find scientifically based research and to assist with ethical decision making to address internal and external challenges.

You will be able to take the exam online immediately following the Webcast. Participants receive a continuing education certificate for .15 AOTA CEU (1.5 NBCOT PDUs/1.5 contact hours) after successful completion of the exam with a score of 80% or better.
