Course Description
AOTA is pleased to present the new online course Occupational Therapy in Action: Using the Lens of the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework, 2nd Edition. The focus of the course is on understanding occupational therapy and the occupational therapy process as described in the 2008 second edition of the Framework This new course builds on the original Framework course developed to supplement the first edition of the Framework in 2002.
It is strongly recommended that readers access the Framework 2nd Edition as they take this course. You may download it as part of the course content or, if you prefer, you can purchase it online at the AOTA Store. If you are an AOTA member, you can also access a copy of the Framework as it appeared in the November/December 2008 issue of the American Journal of Occupational Therapy.
Course Overview
Occupational Therapy in Action: Using the Lens of the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework, 2nd Edition is divided into four sections. Section 1 examines core concepts within the domain of occupational therapy. Sections 2, 3, and 4 examine the occupational therapy process, emphasizing the overarching goal of supporting clients’ “health and participation in life through engagement in occupation” (AOTA, 2008, p. 628). Section 2 focuses on evaluation, Section 3 on intervention, and Section 4 on outcomes. Each section includes learning activities that emphasize application of core concepts presented in this course.
In addition, the course provides many supplemental links to articles published in OT Practice, the SIS Quarterlies, and the American Journal of Occupational Therapy. You are encouraged to review articles that are applicable to your area(s) of practice and to expand your horizons by reading articles pertinent to other practice areas. The articles are provided as additional resources and are not required reading to successfully complete the course.
