Presenter Bio

Yvonne Swinth, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA is a professor in the School of Occupational and Physical Therapy at the University of Puget Sound. She teaches in the areas of assistive technology, pediatrics, and performance adaptations. Her primary research interests include occupational therapy services in the schools, assistive technology, and service delivery options for children with disabilities. She has worked as a pediatric occupational therapist in the public schools of Washington State for more than 20 years. Within the schools, she has provided therapy services for children from birth to 21 years of age, and has been involved in the development of several different programs and grants that address service delivery issues to students with disabilities. She has completed several research projects and has published in professional journals, textbooks and newsletters. She also is the founding editor of Occupational Therapy in Schools and Early Intervention, a professional journal for school-based occupational therapists.

Mary Muhlenhaupt, OTR/L, FAOTA is a research coordinator at Child & Family Studies Research Programs at Thomas Jefferson University, contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of professional development to improve the practices of providers in the Philadelphia Birth to Three Early Intervention System. She is also an adjunct instructor in the Occupational Therapy Program at Thomas Jefferson University, teaching coursework in pediatrics and consultation approaches in occupational therapy practice. An occupational therapist for more than 30 years, she has worked with both school-aged children and school staffs, and with families and their infants and toddlers. Her particular interests have included collaborative teamwork between schools and families and the participation of children with disabilities in all aspects of home, school and community life. She has published in professional journals, textbooks and newsletters and is the Evidence-Based Practice Column editor for the Journal of Occupational Therapy in Schools and Early Intervention.
