The New IDEA Regulations: What Do They Mean to Your School-Based and EI Practice?

Leslie L. Jackson, MEd, OT, has worked with and on behalf of children and families for nearly 25 years. Leslie was formerly AOTA federal affairs representative and practice associate; in that capacity, she represented the association and profession on Capitol Hill and consulted with and provided information to AOTA members, parents, educators, and administrators regarding occupational therapy services for children. Leslie currently works for EasterSeals, where she directs a newly funded project to train child care workers on how to include young children with disabilities in day care settings. Leslie is a member of the AOTA School Systems Special Interest Section, serving as the Quarterly Editor. She also will be overseeing the revision of the AOTA guidelines for school-based and early intervention practice.

Tim Nanof, MSW, is AOTA legislative representative. He has been a licensed social worker for the past 9 years. Before coming to AOTA, Tim did some lobbying on health care issues for the Service Employees International Union, focusing mainly on Medicaid and nursing issues. Prior to that he was program manager for Home Care Partners, Inc., a not-for-profit home care agency focusing on low-income seniors and people with disabilities in the greater Washington, DC area, and a child protective caseworker for the State of Maine. His current responsibilities are lobbying Congress and federal agencies regarding occupational therapy interests in the areas of education, Medicaid, home health, and mental health.
