The AOTA Press publication Reference Guide to the Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics, 2008 Edition is a required text for successfully completing this course.

Foundational information related to ethics and the AOTA “Ethics Standards” (Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics (2005), Core Values and Attitudes, and Guidelines to the Code of Ethics). Developed by the AOTA Ethics Commission, the CD contains an audio presentation accompanied by a rich visual media presentation designed to reinforce the audio portion of the course. A version of the media presentation suitable for printing and note taking is included. Also on the CD are numerous additional resources that will be referred to and integrated into the course content. The resources are also designed to serve as valuable tools for everyday practice and education after completion of the course.

The course material will help practitioners and educators identify and analyze ethical dilemmas, provide a framework for making ethical decisions, identify the different agencies involved in regulating the profession of occupational therapy and their roles, and identify a process for filing and handling complaints related to ethical violations.
