Presenter Bio

Miriam Monahan, MS OTR, CDRS, CDI is an occupational therapist, a Certified Driving Rehabilitation Specialist, and a Driving School Instructor in Vermont.  She is currently heading up the Driver Rehabilitation Program at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Williston, Vermont. She lectures extensively on the topic of driver rehabilitation, both locally and nationally to medical professionals, law enforcement, National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) committees and others.  She has co-authored a chapter on driver rehabilitation services for a college-level occupational therapy textbook. Ms. Monahan has served as public relations chair for the Association for Driver Rehabilitation Specialists (ADED) and has participated on NHTSA-funded projects to educate law enforcement personnel about the impact of medical conditions on driving; and guidelines for State Departments of Motor Vehicles on medical conditions and driving. Ms. Monahan was awarded the 2005 Clinical Practice Award by the Vermont Occupational Therapy Association.

Kimberly Patten, OTL, AMPS certified has 25 years experience as an occupational therapist in neurological rehabilitation with clients across the life span. She is currently in private practice, owning and operating Possibilities Occupational Therapy. Her practice includes treatment for children aged pre-K through high school in the public school system as well as treatment for students in Postsecondary education and training. Her adult practice is entirely community based and is focused on clients with brain injuries and learning disabilities. She works together with clients to develop strategies, supports and accommodations in their homes, at school, in their workplaces, and in the communities in which they live. She is a consultant for the State of Vermont Department of Vocational Rehabilitation and has lectured on the process she has developed to transition a client into work.  She is AMPS certified and uses the AMPS evaluation as part of a comprehensive process of doing a neuroperformance assessment that she has developed. This Performance Based Assessment of Cognitive and Physical Function can be done with both children and adults and is a process of using a variety of available testing instruments to give a complete picture of neuroperfomance.
