AOTPAC 2010: GO Time—Growth & Opportunity 2010!

AOTPAC is actively preparing for the AOTA Annual Conference in Orlando, general fundraising, and supporting candidates for U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate for the 2010 elections.

The AOTPAC Board established their 2010 fundraising goal at $250,000, including a $40,000 goal for the AOTA Annual Conference. To reach these goals it will take the combined efforts and contributions of all AOTA members. While Congress is busy with many legislative challenges, including health care reform, the economy, and jobs, they are also heavily involved in their campaigns for reelection or election to other office.  There is much uncertainty but some things are certain for OT: the Medicare therapy cap exceptions process must be extended or the cap repealed, the Medicare home health bill must be passed, and OT must be included in any health care reform proposal. Together we can achieve success!

The Annual Conference is fast approaching and AOTPAC is busy with preparations. A booth is being hosted in the Conference registration area where AOTA members can obtain information on current legislative and political activities, speak with AOTA policy staff and members of the AOTPAC Board, and make contributions to support the legislative and political purposes of AOTPAC.

The annual AOTPAC Night event will once again combine music, dancing, and—back by popular demand—a KaraOTe Idol contest. It was a hit last year in Houston, so we are bringing it back.  Anyone wishing to participate in the KaraOTe Idol contest can sign up at the AOTPAC Booth or at the door of the event. The event will be held at the Hilton Orlando, Orange Ballroom F/G on Saturday night, May 1, from 7:30 p.m.–10:30 p.m. You won’t want to miss this fun event!

AOTPAC will begin its annual telemarketing efforts in April. We have a lot to accomplish this year and need your support. Please be as generous as you can. Watch for an e-mail prior to the start of the telemarketing and make your contribution early and help us save the cost of a phone call.

The 2010 elections present many opportunities for OT. Some of our friends in Congress are retiring or seeking other elected office. Many new candidates will seek election. The possibilities to make new friends and champions for OT on Capitol Hill are numerous.  Your help is sought in identifying candidates that may be champions for OT if elected.  If you know of any, please send your recommendations along with the reason why AOTPAC should consider them for support to aotpac@aota.org. Also, take this opportunity to volunteer on a campaign: a great way to learn about the process and begin building a relationship with a possible future member of Congress or a current member seeking reelection.

Together, we can make 2010 GO Time for OT!
