Behind the Scenes - The Making of "Scott MacDonald's Journey"

The goal of this project was to illustrate an incredible story, promote awareness of occupational therapy, emphasize the importance of effective interdisciplinary care, and most of all inspire others.

This project started with the idea that more people should know about occupational therapy, its purpose, and its positive interdisciplinary relationship with physical therapy. Throughout my years as a Quinnipiac occupational therapy student I have overheard and experienced countless misinterpretations of my future profession; the most common being related to how occupational therapy is different/not different from physical therapy. These misinterpretations came from students, professionals, friends, and acquaintances of various educational and professional backgrounds. While I was surrounded by a knowledgeable QU occupational therapy community and many other communities within QU Health Science departments, I felt that more students, professionals, and clients should know about occupational therapy. Therefore, in an effort to increase awareness of occupational therapy, I asked my best friend and communications/broadcasting guru, Alex Birsh, to help me create a video which could actually make a difference.

As we began the filming process, our project took a monumental turn for the better. One of my OT professors, Tracy Van Oss, put me in contact with an absolutely incredible person named Scott MacDonald. Upon meeting Scott, we knew this project was going to be about more than increasing professional or social awareness. Most importantly, we knew this project was going to be about helping others through a story of pure inspiration. I encourage anyone with access to a computer for 8 minutes and 52 seconds towatch this video and share it with someone else who may benefit from it in any way.

Thank you,

Ryerson Stinson, BS, MOTS
