Dr. Toto received her BS in Occupational Therapy, her MS in Healthcare Supervision and Management, and PhD in Rehabilitation Science all from the University of Pittsburgh.
Prior to accepting a fulltime faculty position in 2011, Dr. Toto worked in clinical practice for more than 20 years, providing occupational therapy services to older adults as both a clinician and manager in the community and in long term care settings.
Dr. Toto is Board Certified in Gerontology and a Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), where she formerly served as the chair and Quarterly newsletter editor of the Gerontology Special Interest Section. She is a co-editor of the text Strategies to Advance Gerontology Excellence: Promoting Best Practice in Occupational Therapy, and the author of several AOTA Fact Sheets related to productive aging.
Dr. Toto has presented extensively on topics including falls prevention, functional assessment and treatment for older adults, exercise and physical activity programming for older adults, seating and positioning, home modifications, and functional incontinence. She is a volunteer with Rebuilding Together and a CarFit Trainer.
Her research interests include the impact of best practice multicomponent physical activity programs on ADL performance in older adults.
