Teressa Garcia Reidy worked with mentors from AOTA communications and public relations staff to promote the brand—Living Life To Its Fullest—and the profession of occupational therapy. Teressa appeared on a local TV station with one of her clients, created a YouTube video with her employer’s public relations department, and was interviewed for a Vision in Action article on AOTA.org.
Teressa’s participation in the program helped push her to take charge of projects and learn how to promote the brand locally. Teressa has become more independent, more comfortable with initiating projects to promote the profession, and more connected to other occupational therapy practitioners. She enjoyed creating a network and hearing about the other leaders’ projects and was inspired by their experiences.
How did Emerging Leaders help you to live life to its fullest?
“The program has helped me grow and learn about areas that I had no exposure to before this assignment. Sometimes when you are working in your clinic, it is energizing to know that there are other occupational therapy professionals out there who really want to contribute to enhancing and developing the profession and AOTA. There is so much going on outside the practitioner role that most practitioners aren’t aware of on a daily basis,” says Teressa.
