Meeting Rooms

Entrances 
AOTA primarily will be using the south side of the Convention Center. The south side doors will be used by those coming from the Hilton Americas, Holiday Inn Select, Marriott Courtyard, Residence Inn, Four Seasons, and Hyatt Regency. The north doors will be used by those coming from the Inn at the Ballpark. Automatics doors are located at all entrances. The Convention Center is connected to the Hilton Americas at both the second and third floors.

Elevators
There are elevators located throughout the Convention Center that allow access to all levels.

All elevators are equipped with raised/braille designation at the cabin controls and on the door jambs. The highest controls are 47". There is an auditory signal at each level but no verbal cue. The public elevators will accommodate two scooters or wheelchairs.

Signage
Informational and directional signage is located overhead. Signs indicating meeting rooms and restrooms are on the walls adjacent to the doorways and have raised/braille designation.

Meeting Rooms
All meeting rooms are wheelchair accessible. The actual arrangement of meeting room seating will be coordinated by AOTA. Doors typically remain open during meetings. All doors have lever handles. There is low-pile carpeting throughout the meeting rooms.

Restrooms
All restrooms have at least one wheelchair-accessible stall with at least a 60" turning radius. All restrooms have sinks with automatic controls. The sinks are 30" high.

Telephones & Alarm Systems
There are limited public phones in the Convention Center.  

The alarm system in the Convention Center has both auditory and visual components. Convention Center staff will direct attendees in the event of an emergency.

Drinking Fountains
There are numerous drinking fountains throughout the facility with high–low fountains at all locations. The drinking fountains are 33". 

Service Animals
There is a grassy area located directly across the street from the Convention Center in the Discovery Green. 

Parking
The Convention Center has a 1,600-space parking garage located at the corner of Polk Street and Avenida de las Americas. It is connected to the Convention Center and the Hilton Americas by skywalks on Level 2. The garage is open 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, and rates are based on the amount of time spent parked.

Directly across from the Convention Center is the Discovery Green park. Discovery Green has a 650-car underground parking garage that also is open 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Rates vary.

Open-air lots will need to be used for parking conversion vans requiring more than 94" clearance. Information on those lots can be found here.

HILTON AMERICAS HOUSTON

Distance from the George R. Brown Convention Center: Connects on the 2nd and 3rd levels

Pluses: The Hilton Americas is the Conference Headquarters hotel and the closest one to the Convention Center. Access to the Convention Center is from the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Hilton Americas. There are automatic doors on both levels.

Minuses: AOTA is currently working with the management of the Hilton Americas to shorten the desks in the roll-in shower rooms. Current desk configuration only allows 22" clearance between the bed and the desk. This does not allow access to the windows for anyone who uses a wheelchair or scooter for mobility.

Accessible Guest Rooms
There are 21 rooms categorized as accessible at the Hilton Americas. The guest floor hallways are 69" wide. The following accommodations are available:

  • Wide doorways (33") and lever hardware
  • High and low (48") peepholes
  • Decreased pressure to open doors
  • Low-pile carpeting and tile in the bathroom
  • Closets with raised and lowered clothes bars
  • Lowered temperature control unit

The main entrance to the hotel is on Lamar Street. There is a power door with graded ramp. There is 24-hour coverage from bellmen to assist with luggage.

Lobby
The hotel lobby is just inside the Lamar Street entrance. A portion of the registration counter is not wheelchair accessible. Staff will come around to assist as needed. Floor plans of the hotel layout should be requested at registration check-in if desired because they are not automatically available in the guest rooms.

Smoking is not permitted in public areas of the hotel.

Public Restrooms
All restrooms have one wheelchair-accessible stall with at least a 60" turning radius. All restroom sinks have automatic controls. Sink height is 29" with insulated pipes.

Meeting Rooms

AOTA Conference hotels are situated approximately 12 miles from William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) and 25 miles from Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH).

SuperShuttle complies with the American Disabilities Act pertaining to accessible service for airport shuttle service. People who are in need of accessible service must make a reservation by calling one of the phone numbers listed above. Reservations must be made 1 day in advance to ensure availability of accessible vans. Reservations can also be made online. When making a reservation, customers should specify whether an accessible vehicle is required and whether a service animal will be accompanying them.

Taxi Service
Yellow Cab offers wheelchair accessible vehicles/vans. Call (713)236-1111 at least 24 hours ahead of time to make arrangements or make your reservation online.

MOBILITY AIDS
