What's New in 2008!

  • Going Green! In order to be better stewards of our environment, AOTA has taken a number of steps to "go green" with our Annual Conference & Expo. These efforts include:      
    þ Member Resource Centerless paper materials and more interaction! Attendees will be directed to the AOTA Web site and computers will be available onsite to access any needed information.
    þ Conference Program Guidethe onsite Guide has been shortened to save paper and trees. More information is now being provided on the Web site.
    þ Pitchers of waterto cut down on the amount of plastic being disposed, bottled water will be replaced with pitchers of water whenever possible. 
    þ Recycled paperall conference publications are being printed on recycled paper.
    þ Recycling containersthe Long Beach Convention Center recycles. Please do your part to protect the environment by putting your cans, bottles, and paper in the appropriate recycling containers.
    þ E-communicationyour post-conference survey will be sent electronically. Please be on the lookout for an e-mail from AOTA in the days following conference and send us your feedback. We need your comments and suggestions!
    þ Less mailconference information is being communicated more frequently through electronic means rather than by direct mail, which means less paper to throw away!
  • Web-Based Conference Program pages on the AOTA Web site are more robust, intuitive and user friendly. Take advantage of the information there to plan ahead and make your conference experience more productive and enjoyable.
  • Session Times for educational sessions are included in the Conference Program Announcement to make it easier for you to pre-plan your conference schedule.
  • Free Pre-Conference Seminar on AOTA Board Certification and Specialty Certification prepares practitioners to develop their certification application through interactive discussion and activity. (Wednesday, April 9)
  • Free Pre-Conference Seminar on CarFit Technician Training to help mature drivers find out how well they fit their automobile and to promote driver safety and community mobility. (Wednesday, April 9 and Thursday morning, April 10)
  • Poster Sessions will be arranged by topic categories and the process for receiving contact hours will be much simpler. Plus, Special Interest Section members will be doing walk-around discussions during most poster session times.
  • Research Platforms that consist of 30-minute research papers on related topics are a new addition to the conference program. Contact hours will be awarded.
  • Open Networking Time on Friday afternoon and all day Saturday.  Check the information on site for specific location.
  • Service Day opportunity for attendees to work with a local nonprofit occupational therapy practice to help improve the life of a junior high or high school student by becoming a “Success Partner.” (Friday, April 11) 
  • Entertainment from HipHop dance organization Culture Shock at the Student Mixer this year, due to popular demand! (Thursday, April 10)
  • 2 Fitness Events this year! Join the SIS Fun Run and Walk on Saturday morning and the Balanced Body class on Sunday morning. Come check them out!

and last, but not least…

  • FREE admission to Expo on Friday or Saturday for volunteers who work 4 or more hours! Check out the volunteer opportunities!
