About Congressional Affairs

The Federal Affairs Department monitors and lobbies the U.S. Congress and selected federal agencies. This department provides developmental and operational support for the Association's grassroots lobbying network.

The Federal Affairs Department supports the professional community by monitoring and influencing public policy initiatives that affect occupational therapy, providing consultation and resources to meet member needs, and interacting with external organizations to promote the profession.

Christina A. Metzler, Chief Public Affairs Officer

Leads and manages the division addressing public policy, including Public Affairs, Federal Affairs, Health Policy and State Affairs, and Regulatory Affairs, to ensure the interests of AOTA members are advocated and protected.

Heather Parsons, Director of Federal Affairs

Monitors and lobbies the U.S. Congress and selected Federal agencies while providing developmental and operational support for the Association’s grassroots lobbying network through member education and resource dissemination.

John Ray, Legislative Representative

Darlene C. Dennis, Political Action Administrator

Manages the operations of the American Occupational Therapy Political Action Committee (AOTPAC) and supports its Board of Directors as AOTA staff liaison while also identifying AOTA members to attend local political events and supporting such activities for AOTA
