The "Smiling Faces"

Smiling baby

Living Life To Its Fullest” applies to people of all ages, types, and situations. Each smiling face pictured in our AOTA poster and brochures could belong to anyone—a parent, spouse, child, or friend—whose life has been touched by occupational therapy. Their smiles represent what occupational therapy achieves for people—happiness, acceptance, achievement, in short, Living Life To Its Fullest.

Occupational therapy is unique for each individual and is based on science and evidence about how people engage in their lives. The poster isn’t a literal illustration of occupational therapy techniques. It symbolizes what occupational therapy accomplishes: a life lived as fully as possible.

Occupational therapy helps clients recover from major surgery, adapt to serious illness and perform daily tasks in their lives, and helps promote a healthier lifestyle to prevent illness or injury. It looks at the whole person and helps them to function at the highest possible level, build independence, participate in everyday activities that make life worth living--and smile!

That's why we have chosen to communicate this feeling with simple images that we hope will help the public to clearly understand the fundamental, important, and valuable outcomes that occupational therapy achieves for people in all situations.

We encourage you to adopt "Living Life To Its Fullest" as a simple, yet powerful, message. Use it daily to help communicate the essence of our profession to clients, consumers, fellow health care professionals, and everyone who can benefit from all that occupational therapy has to offer.

The "Gas Fuel Gauge"

Gas gauge with needle on full

What’s on the inside of every person waiting to be used? Potential! We are fuel tanks waiting to be filled and run on full throttle.

Occupational therapy can have that effect on people. It helps them feel the power and possibility of being independent, functioning in daily life, and achieving their goals.

Occupational therapy practitioners look at the whole person and determine what “fuel” each individual wants and needs so their lives are complete and their potential is realized. To do this, occupational therapy uses science and evidence-based best practices and considers the whole picture—their physical, environmental, psychological, and social needs—to keep them running on “full.”

We encourage you to adopt “Living Life To Its Fullest” as a simple, yet powerful message. Use it daily to help communicate the essence of our profession to clients, consumers, fellow health care professionals, and everyone who can benefit from all that occupational therapy has to offer.

The "Glass of Water"

Water glass almost full

The question has been asked since the beginning of time.

“Is the glass half full or half empty?”

Occupational therapy practitioners have the answer: It’s full when client and practitioner work together in harmony to ensure that clients are doing their best no matter what challenges they face.

The idea of the glass is about “full” on many levels. By taking the full picture into account—a person’s psychological, physical, emotional, and social make-up—occupational therapy assists people in achieving their goals, functioning at the highest possible level, concentrating on what matters most to them, maintaining or rebuilding their independence, and participating in the everyday activities that they need to do or that simply make life worth living.

Occupational therapy works to get beyond disability or limitations, creating ways for individuals to live life to its fullest no matter what.

We encourage you to adopt “Living Life To Its Fullest”™ as a simple yet powerful and effective messaging tool to help accomplish our goal of communicating the essence of our wonderful profession to the health care and consumer worlds.

No one can slow down the hands of time.

Occupational therapy practitioners however, can do something even more special—maximize the time they are fortunate enough to spend with clients to ensure those clients are doing their best no matter what challenges they face.

Indeed, occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants enable people to thrive, adjust to disability or limitations, and design their lives as they want. Occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants create ways for individuals to live life to its fullest…no matter what.

“Living Life To Its Fullest”™ is what occupational therapy is truly all about.

A clock with extra hours is a symbol of the power of occupational therapy to expand possibilities for people.

"To Do List"

Notepad and pen with message "Do the Best I Can!"

“Do The Best I Can”…Five little words that speak to the heart of occupational therapy. These are words that sum up the possibilities of each day and each individual, helping clients realize that they can make the best of each moment and the circumstances they live in.

Occupational therapy practitioners have the tools to make that perspective a reality. They help people understand what might be the limitations or realities of illness or disability and then “live life to its fullest” no matter what, whether it’s dealing with autism, helping an aging parent remain independent, or simply enjoying life’s beauty by planting a flower.

We encourage you to adopt “Living Life To Its Fullest” as a simple, yet powerful message. Use it daily to help communicate the essence of our profession to clients, consumers, fellow health care professionals, and everyone who can benefit from all that occupational therapy has to offer.

The “Triple Ice Cream Scoop”

Triple Ice Cream Scoop on a Cone

Why an ice cream cone as a brand image? Why a triple scoop? How does that convey “Living Life To Its Fullest?”

A triple scoop ice cream cone brings to mind something big and rewarding, doesn’t it? Something you hoped for but didn’t expect to get. Something you see others enjoying and long for yourself. And that’s what occupational therapy brings to people!

Occupational therapy practitioners can help clients understand that not only ordinary, but also remarkable, accomplishments are possible through the intervention of occupational therapy. Occupational therapy says the impossible is possible. It sets goals for people who feel those goals are beyond their reach, and then works with them to make those goals attainable and, by doing so, helps them enjoy the most out of life.

We encourage you to adopt “Living Life To Its Fullest” as a simple, yet powerful message. Use it daily to help communicate the essence of our profession to clients, consumers, fellow health care professionals, and everyone who can benefit from all that occupational therapy has to offer.
