AARP
AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, with a membership of more than 37 million. AARP has staffed offices in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
AOTA has a collaborative relationship with AARP relative to senior driver safety and mobility. CarFit (see) is a national program managed collaboratively between AAA, AARP and AOTA. CarFit is an educational program that offers drivers the opportunity to check how well their personal vehicles "fit" them. The CarFit program also provides information and materials on community-specific resources that could enhance their safety as drivers, and/or increase their mobility in the community. Occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants and occupational therapy students volunteer at CarFit events, offering education of adaptive aids and resources including services offered by driving rehabilitation programs.
AOTA also has a relationship with AARP relative to Aging in Place initiatives. AOTA has provided review and edits of two versions of the AARP Home Fit Guide which is available as a booklet (To order call 1-888-OUR-AARP and ask for Stock #D18810) and also
online. AARP also launched Home Fit Presentations in 13 states in 2012 and OTs are volunteering to present or co-present in those local initiatives. The Home Fit presentation was developed by an OT and AARP MI staff member. If you are interested
