NCQA (National Committee for Quality Assurance)
AOTA participates in the Health Care Practitioner Advisory Council (HCPAC) of the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). Established in 1990, NCQA is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of health care. Through their accreditation process and outcomes measurement program, NCQA assesses and reports on the quality of the nation's managed care plans, individual doctors, and medical groups. The HCPAC provides input to NCQA from a group representing providers other than medical doctors on their accreditation standards, the Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set (HEDIS), and practitioner recognition programs in chronic disease care categories.
NCQA's mission is "to improve the quality of health care" and its vision is " to transform health care quality through measurement, transparency, and accountability." They have established HEDIS as an outcomes report card to allow employers and consumers to compare health plans for quality, value, and efficiency. HEDIS also provides feedback to health plans on areas for performance quality improvement.
